As a doctor, I know how crucial good communication is within healthcare. Yet, research shows that miscommunication is a major cause of burnout or a reason to leave the profession in as many as 80% of cases. Despite this awareness, the availability of training in this area remains remarkably scarce.

In my search for ABAN-accredited continuing education, I came across the basic course of the in 2023. Process Communication Model (PCM). This three-day course proved to be a real eye-opener. In a small group of eight participants, we learned not only the theoretical aspects of the model but, more importantly, how to apply them practically. The diversity within the group immediately demonstrated how differently people communicate – and, even more importantly, how to respond effectively to that.

PCM teaches you to recognize the 'language' of the other person, even in stressful situations. You learn to detect signs of stress early on and how to adjust your communication in such a way that you can invite the other person out of their stress. This leads to more understanding, fewer conflicts, and constructive conversations – even when tension rises. The difference PCM makes is the clear structure that provides a framework for dealing effectively with conflict situations, especially.

In my work, I noticed results almost immediately: better collaboration, more appreciation, and the ability to set boundaries in a friendly, clear manner.

The model offers practical tools for communication within complex care environments, where hierarchy, generational differences, and transgressive behavior regularly play a role. PCM helps to better understand these dynamics and to deal with them.

For me, PCM has become an indispensable tool in my daily work. It has strengthened my professional relationships and increased my job satisfaction. I am convinced that this training offers great added value for every healthcare professional.
